Earlier today at Tokyo’s famed Korakuen Hall, New Japan Pro-Wrestling kicked off the 30th Best of the Super Jr. tournament. Opening night’s main event featured IMPACT Wrestling’s Mike Bailey squaring off with current reigning IWPG Jr. Heavyweight Champion and 4-time Best of the Super Jr. winner Hiromu Takahashi. Following a handshake that quickly turned into physicality, Bailey gained early advantage with his signature flurry of kicks. The fight then spilled into the crowd where Takahashi took out Bailey with running dropkick. Back in the ring, the action was back and forth with both competitors scoring several near falls. Bailey soared with a springboard Moonsault, colliding with Takahashi on the floor. Moments later, Takahashi avoided a double knee drop on the apron, allowing him to connect with a Sunset Flip powerbomb to the outside. In the end, Bailey successfully hit Ultima Weapon to score the upset victory over Takahashi. Bailey now sits at 1-0 in the tournament.
Stay tuned as Mike Bailey’s matchups are added to IMPACT Plus for on-demand viewing.
